Our story begins in the late 19th century, when Luigi Locati opened a small artisanal workshop in the Navigli district of Milan. Initially specializing in decorating leather book covers for sacred texts, by 1908 the company shifted its focus to refined leather and fabric clutches for high society, becoming the first leather goods manufacturer of its time

ARTISAN INNOVATION

During the Austro-Hungarian era, the introduction of precious “Piccolo Punto” clutches met with great success. The purchase of an 18th-century wooden loom laid the foundation for creating the exclusive “Mesh” fabric, a unique weave that has characterized many of our collections ever since.

THE ICONIC MESH FABRIC

Born from the purchase of a hand loom in 1890, “Mesh” is still crafted today using ancient techniques. Initially, it featured 24-karat gold and 925 silver threads; in its more modern versions, leather, velvet, and satin are still woven together with these precious metals, preserving the exclusive DNA and inestimable value of this fabric.
